massage Contra-indications

Massage Therapy is generally considered to be a safe and effective treatment. However, due to the significant effect it has on the body's systems, people with certain conditions/ illnesses may have an adverse reaction to treatment.

In the interest of health and safety, I will not treat you if you have:

  • A Fever
  • A Contagious or Infectious Disease
  • Cancer (Although sometimes in terminal cases, massage therapy can be administered, but only with permission from your doctor)

I may also refuse to treat you if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of treatment.

You will need to seek advice from you G.P, before having Massage Therapy treatment if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Cardiovascular Conditions (including hypertension and hypotension)
  • Medical Oedema
  • Osteoporosis
  • Arthritis
  • Nervous/ Psychotic Conditions
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Bell's Palsy
  • Trapped or Pinched Nerves
  • Inflamed Nerve
  • Acute Rheumatism
  • Any condition already being treated by your G.P or another complimentary therapist

You will also need to seek medical permission if you:

  • are pregnant
  • have had a recent operation

If any of the above apply to you, I will seek written permission from your G.P before administering treatment.

If you suffer from any of the following localised conditions, I can administer Massage Therapy, but will avoid the affected area:

  • Some Skin Diseases
  • Undiagnosed Lumps or Bumps
  • Varicose Veins
  • Cuts
  • Bruises
  • Abrasions
  • Inflammation
  • Scar Tissue (Can not be massaged for 2 years following a major operation, or for 6 months for a small scar)
  • Sunburn
  • Areas of Undiagnosed Pain
  • Menstruation (On the Abdomen for the first few days, or depending on how much pain you are feeling)

I will ask you about your medical history during your consultation before your 1st treatment
